Kitchen with a niche in Green Grape Corian
Top, splashback and sides in one continuous piece
Here DuPont™ Corian is not making a worktop: it is making a niche. Top, splashback and the two vertical sides are a single body in the colour Green Grape, set into the wall of glossy white doors like an open box.
It is a shape you cannot obtain in stone. A granite or marble top has to be butted against the splashback, and a joint line remains to be sealed — the point where, over the years, the silicone turns grey. Corian instead is bonded and sanded: the corner between top and splashback is solid and continuous, and one pass of a sponge cleans it.
The sink bowl is formed in the same body, again in Green Grape: not a sink dropped in, but the same sheet lowered. The gas hob is flush-mounted and the timber chopping board slides over the bowl.

How a Corian bowl is built
The sink bowl is built separately and then joined to the top. It is the most delicate operation: the bottom has to be made with the right falls towards the waste, otherwise water sits in it. The full method is explained here →
