A DuPont™ Corian basin is neither set on the top nor dropped into it: it is the same sheet, lowered to form the bowl. There is no rim joint, so there is no point where water can sit or limescale can build up.
The material is not porous: it does not absorb and does not stain deep down. If after a few years the surface dulls or picks up a scratch, it is sanded and comes back as it was — something you cannot do with ceramic.
The dimensions are not from a catalogue. The basin is built around the space available: the length of the unit, the position of the waste, the height you need.
